Snazzle Craft Interview

By Interviewer at 11/30/09 11:08

What is the name of your Blog?

Snazzle Craft

What is your name?

Amanda Ward

Where are you from? (include country, state and/or city)

Indiana, USA

What is your current age or age range?

28

Please describe your blog

A super crafty blog site that has everything from free funky applique patterns to tutorials on how to recycle adult clothes into wearable clothing for infants and young children. Want gift ideas? This site offers many ideas for gifts for adults and kids alike that the crafty person can make at home. Not a sewer? No problem! There are example of paintings and other projects available.

Describe the main purpose of your blogging, what are you trying to accomplish?

I decided to start blogging this year because I was frustrated trying to find the blogs I was interested in. Mainly, I wanted to learn about this foreign concept to me of wardrobe recycling. It's where you take a piece of unused clothing and turn it into something else...a handbag, a different style piece of clothing, kids clothes, dolls, toys, dishrags, whatever! I trying to live my life really "green" right now and recycle as much as I can in every area of my life. Plus I just had a second child six months ago and have found that two kids are more expensive than one! Clothes were getting to be really expensive and I knew something had to be done to cut costs. I am a good sewer and figured I would give this wardrobe refashioning a try. However, I couldn't find a site that offered enough detailed information (for FREE) on how to make kids clothes from old/used adult's or older children's clothes! It was so frustrating! I decided that I would have to figure it out on my own and I would blog along the way. Good or bad, I will post the results. So far it's only been good, but I haven't been blogging that long!

What do you blog the most about?

I blog about everything creative or artistic that I do. I may throw in a random post once in a while but I try to stick to crafting/sewing. That's what I am the best with. I think people will come to my site to see what new thing I have made and they don't want to see a bunch of ramblings about politics or the marathon I decided to run.

What kind of blogs make you angry?

I only really read craft/sewing blogs. I get annoyed when people don't give clear directions, don't realize that they have broken links or pictures that don't work, or stray off their blog theme too much. For instance, if I have come to your site because you advertise that it is a site about knitting....then why are you posting about how you burnt your dinner last night? Get me to the crafting info, that's what I came for!

Give five of your best blogging tips.

Keep directions clear and simple. Always check to make sure your links and pictures are working on your site. Be descriptive without being overly wordy. Keep it fun. Love every post or don't post it.

What are some things you would NEVER blog about?

Politics, especially right now. Really anything ultra controversial is off limits for me. My close family and friends know how I feel about those things but that's it. I think it is opening up a huge can of worms to blog about controversial topics on the internet.

Did you start blogging for the purpose of making money and if so, are you making enough money?

I would like to sell my arts and crafts at some point but that is not why I started blogging. Maybe it will be a good platform for me to do that later on if I develop some type of fan base. Meanwhile I need to come up with a good idea of something to sell! I have too many ideas and I need to narrow it down.

How long have you been blogging?

About two months now. Not long at all. But I am making sure I am blogging heavily right now to build up content on my blog. After a while I might cool it off to two posts per week, we'll see.

About how many hours per day do you spend blogging?

I couldn't measure it by day, but I probably spend about 5 to 6 hours per week getting the posts "just so". It takes me a while when I am adding tutorials because I don't want them to be too confusing or too wordy.

What promotional techniques work best for you and why?

I have no promotional techniques! LOL. Any suggestions?

What are your top five blogging site picks and why?

1) http://etsylabs.blogspot.com/ 2) http://www.chezlin.com/ 3) http://craftster.org 4) http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/ 5) http://indietutes.blogspot.com/

I think that each of these sites has something different to offer but the main thing is that they keep me inspired to keep crafting. They help me realize that I can never be out of ideas.
